IPO, Industries dept join hands for GIs promotion


MULTAN : Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) and provincial industries department have joined hands with MCCI for Geographical Indications (GIs) for the economic growth of growers and people of South Punjab. Project Director GIs, Nasir Rafique told on Friday that they had recently arranged a workshop in collaboration with UNIDO and IPO at Multan Chambers of Commerce and Industry to sensitize the business community about the importance of GIs. He added that by registering with IPOs the growers could get more foreign investment and better prices of their produce.


GIs of Multan included mangoes, blue pottery, camel skin items, bloc printing and handicrafts, he said adding that the business community would have to make their associations to get registered with IPO.
“Industries commerce and investment department is ready for had holding of the new associations”. DG IPO Tariq Feroze, Deputy Director IPOs Muhammad Ismail and Miss Nadia Zubair Shah briefed the participants of the workshop on the importance of registration and GIs. Sector expert horticulture and SPS compliance UNIDO, Muhammad Aurangzaib Khan, told the participants about good agricultural practices (GAP), he said.
Project Director GIs Nasir Rafique said that more than seventy artisans, growers and chamber representatives attended the workshop.
