Korean firm gets consultancy contract of 500kv Dasu transmission line

National Transmission & Despatch Company Limited (NTDCL) and Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO) have signed a consultancy contract for designing, engineering and construction supervision of 500 Kv Dasu-Islamabad transmission line.
Chief Engineer NTDCL Engr. Mahmood Ahmad and Vice President KEPCO Jae-Han Go signed the contract during a ceremony held at a local hotel on Friday.
While speaking on the occasion, General Manager (GSC) Abdur Razzaq Cheema said that Wapda had identified 26 potential hydropower project sites in northern areas. Dasu hydro power project is one of the identified sites on run-of-river Indus with total capacity of 4320 MW.
The project is to be developed in two stages each of 2160 MW. As per schedule, the first stage of the project will be completed by June 2019. The responsibility of NTDCL is to construct 500KV D/C transmission line from Dasu hydropower project to Islamabad via Mansehra for evacuation of 2160 MW Power at first stage.
Razzaq Cheema said that NTDCL is committed to arrange evacuation of power, six months ahead of scheduled completion of Dasu hydropower project which is due in Dec 2018. General Manager (GSC) further said that transmission line Dasu is World Bank funded project with financing agreement to the tune of $350 million, including $10 million for project management and supervision. M/s KEPCO is a top ranking consultant firm, selected through open competitive bidding and has the approval of Board of Director NTDCL.
While addressing the ceremony, Vice President KEPCO Jae-Han Go paid gratitude to the NTDCL for hiring KEPCO as consultancy firm for Dasu hydropower project transmission line and will do its best to meet the challenges while using the best techniques in the construction as well as in reducing the distribution and transmission losses with an aim to counter the energy crisis in Pakistan.
General Managers NTDCL, Chief Engineers, Finance Director, Director General Human Resource along with Members of Korean delegation were also present on the occasion.
