New lending policy for small industry, agriculture in offing

LAHORE - National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Ali Raza has disclosed that a comprehensive policy is being drafted regarding lending facility to agriculture and small industries to generate job opportunities. Talking to reporters here in Lahore Press Club on Thursday, the NBP president elaborated on that lending to big industries did not generate mush employment, therefore small industries were being focused. Ali Raza said that the NBP was the second largest bank that offered loans to the farmers after Zari Taraqiati Bank. He also dispelled the impression that Presidents Rozgar Scheme was suspended, saying it was being reactivated with the name of Peoples Rozgar Scheme. The NBP president also repudiated the claims that influential people managed to writ off their loans, saying that about 85 percent of loans written off over the last three years were less than Rs 300,000. Journalist community does fall in 'Negative list and that they can avail loans from the bank, he said.
