Conference at Bahria University
KARACHI (PR): Bahria University Karachi Campus concluded 1st National Conference on “Emerging Trends and Innovations in Computing & Technology” (NACTICT ‘16) on Wednesday. The chief guest of the closing ceremony of conference was Rector Bahria University, Vice Admiral (r) Tanveer Faiz. While addressing the audience, Rector Bahria University said that we need to enhance such innovating platforms for encouraging our researchers and academicians so that they can learn and share their experiences at large.
Further, they can contribute their efforts and expertise at bigger forums. He also elaborated various initiatives in motivating faculty members and students to initiate research activities. Various national speakers spoke during plenary sessions.
The conference, a joint-venture between HEC and Bahria University, aimed at providing an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present their contributions and exchange ideas related to various challenges in the domain of Autonomous Computing, Communication and Networking and Software Engineering. The purpose was to bring together researchers from academia and industry to exchange their ideas and results, and to discuss the state of the art research in the Emerging Trends in Computing and Technologies. Large number of academicians, researcher and students attended.
CIMA revised syllabus
LAHORE (PR): Shane Balzan, Head of Syllabus Development at CIMA, has presented the revised Cert BA syllabus.
At the launch, he said: “With the updated Certificate in Business Accounting, CIMA has set out to enhance the relevance of the syllabus to employers and their talent pool. Through this endeavor we seek to find a sustainable solution that can address the complexity and uncertainty that is prevalent in the current business environment.”
Noel Tagoe, Executive Director of CIMA Education, said: ‘The Certificate in Business Accounting is designed to elevate people and businesses to success by developing skills and unlocking talent.
It’s a standalone qualification designed to give anyone – not just those in a finance role – a solid grasp of the fundamentals of business and finance. By equipping people with the knowledge and skills that employers need, we can help them further their careers.’ In 2015, CIMA introduced an updated syllabus and computerized assessments for the CIMA professional qualification, based on rigorous global research and the newly-created Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) competency framework.
Punjab govt, Mortein to launch campaign
LAHORE (PR): The Local Government & Community Development Department (LG&CDD), Health Department Punjab in collaboration with Mortein (Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan) and Plan International launched a campaign to reduce the incidence of dengue across the province. This announcement was made by Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Provincial Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health, Dr Waseem Akram, Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Dengue, and Shahzeb Mehmood, CEO Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan, along with Adnan Laeeq, Plan International Pakistan representative at a press briefing at a local hotel in Lahore.
The campaign ‘Dengue Se Pak Pakistan’ will focus on combating dengue by educating people about undertaking proactive measures.
ELDEC concludes
LAHORE (PR): The 3rd e-Learning and Distance Education Conference (ELDEC) concluded at Ali Institute Lahore. Speakers and delegates from academia, and corporate world converged during the two-day event. The theme of the conference was "e-Learning and Distance Education: Evolution, Challenges & Solutions". A big number of national educationist and delegates from Canada, UK, Germany, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka participated in the event.
A total of 7 keynote speeches and 35 technical papers split over in 5 sessions were presented in two days. Dr Shahid Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University graced the event as chief guest.
RapidCompute in Lahore
LAHORE (PR): RapidCompute, Pakistan’s leading cloud service provider, has been growing from strength to strength, since its inception in 2012. The new RapidCompute Data center has been built using technology components from Schineider Electric and Munib Khawaja, its Country Vice President, was also present at the event. He regarded being a part of building RapidCompute Data center and the spoke about the success of this project.
AKUH organises festival
KARACHI (PR): With the motto to ‘Support the Fighters and Admire the Cancer Survivors’, a festival was organized by The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, to laud the bravery of cancer patients and their families and to encourage them not to lose hope but to have courage as they continue the battle against cancer.
Held at the Sports and Rehabilitation Centre, the festival attracted about 1000 people from all over the city.
The programme was opened by Hans Kedzeirski, CEO of AKUH, Karachi and the stage activities led by Dr. Adnan Jabbar, Dr. Munira Moosajee and colleagues included useful health tips as well as a memorable release of twenty four white pigeons to symbolize peace and hope for all cancer patients. They were joined by the well-known ZubaidaApa, Chef Saadat, Ruby Shakeel, UzmaAijaz Khan and the famous cricketer Faisal Iqbal, who delivered motivational talks, lifting the spirits of patients and their families. Various informational stalls were set up including Physiotherapy, Radiation Oncology, Oncology Nursing Services, Palliative Care, Home Health Care, Nutrition, Pharmacy and Clinical Imaging. Three support groups namely ‘I will stay beautiful’, ‘Head and Neck Cancer’ and ‘Paediatric Oncology’ were also present.
Tevta meeting held
LAHORE (PR): Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) will complete the process of issuing the appointment letters to 850 new teachers for its Punjab institutes next month. Teachers for the post from Grade 14 to 17 are being inducted. This was stated by Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while addressing the officers regarding recruitment of new teachers in TEVTA institutes.
The meeting was attended by Chief Operating Officer TEVTA Jawad Ahmed Qureshi and other officers.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that to ensure transparency and merit in the recruitment procedure, services of National Testing Service (NTS) Islamabad were hired to conduct the test. 26000 candidates submitted their applications for these posts. Test was conducted by the NTS and 7902 candidates passed the entry test. NTS prepared the merit as per record of successful candidates. Interviews were arranged at district level. The selection committee under the chairmanship of DCO of each district conducted the interviews.
Mobilink hosts MYM Entrepreneurial Connect Day
LAHORE (PR): Mobilink hosted a Make Your Mark Entrepreneurial Connect Day featuring incubated start-ups from LUMS Center for Entrepreneurship (LCE) and Social Innovation Lab (SIL) with the aim to commission successful and scalable business partnerships with successful start-Ups. The MYM Entrepreneurial Connect Day, in line with its Group-wide Make Your Mark Initiative, is based on Mobilink’s commitment to providing commercial opportunities to young people to bring their ideas to life as new businesses so they can help themselves, their communities and the broader economy.
The 11 participating start-ups were previously mentored by Mobilink representatives at LCE with the intention of helping them enhance their entrepreneurial advantage.
The judges for the evening were Head of Departments of Mobilink’s various business functions, who utilized their business acumen to assist the Telco in choosing the winning start-up and commission a successful and scalable business partnership. They included: Omar Manzur - Head of Corporate Communications, MaazZahid Qureshi - Head of Digital, AsgharJameel - Chief Human Resource Officer, Syed Babur - Head of Value Added Services, Muhammad Ali Khan - Head of Data, Faisal Ejaz Khan - Regional Business Head Central and Syed Jafar Abbas - Senior Manager Mobile Financial Services.
