PIA to acquire 8 wide-body aircraft under revival plan

ISLAMABAD  - As part of its revival plan, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to increase the number of inland and out-bound flights by acquiring at least eight wide-body aircrafts from the international market.

According to official sources, the national flag carrier immediately requires eight aircrafts, four each on wet-lease and dry-lease basis.

The four aircrafts, being acquired on wet-lease basis, will have the capacity to accommodate 250 plus passengers each, including 24 business class seats.

The fleet will be made available by mid of December this year.

The lease term will be for three months (extendable) tenure with 300 guaranteed Block Hours per aircraft per month is required to be met with. The vintage should be 2012 onwards.

Similarly, the four aircrafts to be acquired on the dry-lease will also have capacity of 250 plus passengers each, with 24 business class seats. Lease is for the period from six to eight years.

“Ageing aircrafts, meeting NAP-2015 age criteria, would also be considered if they are provided with the facilities like modern 24 business class flat bed seats, modern economy class seats, latest in-flight entertainment AVOD system and new carpets, besides refurbished cabins,” the sources said.

The sealed bids meeting with all the criteria and on the specified performa would be accepted by November 16, 2016 till 1500 hours (PST) at PIA headquarters, which would be opened at 1600 hours the same day.
