President asks traders to pay due taxes

ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the government needed to increase tax revenue for the better development of the country and uplifting peoples living standards and business community should cooperate with it in its efforts for broadening tax base and improving tax revenue.

While talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), President Mamnoon said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a game changer for Pakistan as it would trigger many developmental projects in the country, create lot of business and employment opportunities. He stressed that private sector should ensure maximum participation in its development. He said the ICCI’s proposal for an industrial estate in Islamabad will be given due consideration to promote industrialisation and investment in the region. He said he would also recommend ICCI representation in CDA Board as well as in the governing bodies of Islamabad Club and Citizen Club.

On the occasion, the ICCI president said that more than 90 per cent issues of trade and industry were related to Capital Development Authority (CDA) therefore ICCI should be given representation in the CDA Board. He said the ICCI had held many meetings with the CDA for establishment of a new industrial estate in I-17 Sector as current industrial areas have reached saturation point. He said that some progress was also made to this effect, but later on the project was shelved by the CDA. He demanded that this project should be revived to set up new industries in the region.

He said business community was making useful contribution to the tax revenue and was ready to cooperate with the government in further broadening tax network. He said ICCI representation in Islamabad Club and Citizens Club was important for the facilitation of its members.

ICCI Senior Vice President Khalid Malik, Vice President Tahir Ayub, Khalid Javed, Tariq Sadiq, Muhammad Akram Farid, Zubair Ahmed Malik, Mian Shaukat Masud, Zafar Bakhtawari, Ejaz Abbasi, Zahid Maqbool, Mehfooz Elahi, AtifIkram Sheikh, Muzzamil Sabri, Khalid Chaudhry, Sheikh Amir Waheed, Shaukat Ali, Ch Muhammad Naeem, Zakria Zia, Fatima Azeem and Ch Waheedud Din were included in the delegation.

Mamnoon urges businessmen to support govt for timely completion of CPEC

 

ISLAMABAD (NNI): President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday called upon the business community to pay their due taxes in order to contribute in national development and provision of basic services to the people.

While talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Mamnioon said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) holds great prospects for rapid prosperity and development in the country and urged the business community to support the government in ensuring timely completion of this mega project. He exhorted all segments of the society to play their role in curbing corruption and improving the national economy.

While praising the policies of the government, President Mamnoon said that the incumbent government and its economic teams are capable to take Pakistan economically forward. He said that the ICCI office bearers should strive to resolve the problems of the business community and act as a bridge between the government and traders and entrepreneurs to serve the country and ensure economic development.

The ICCI president appreciated the government for restoring law and order situation in the country and creating conducive business atmosphere which has led to increased business and trade opportunities across the country. He further said that foreign delegations are now regularly visiting Pakistan to explore and enter into business ventures which augur well for the country.

The ICCI office bearers apprised the president about their problems. The president assured of his support in resolving their issues.
