Chicken meat prices decline in Karachi on low demand

KARACHI - The price of chicken meat has recorded huge decline in Karachi owing to decreasing demand ahead of upcoming Eidul Azha. This sharp decline in chicken price has taken as a fact that before Eidul Azha, people prefer to keep their refrigerators and fridge empty for storing the meat of sacrificial animals however, a vast majority of consumers also purchase chicken meat in bulk during this price decline period and consume it when they get exhausted of taking beef and mutton.
Currently chicken price in the local market has dipped to Rs 170 to 180 per kg from Rs 220 to 240 per kg during the last few days, also further decline in coming days is expected which will take the price down to Rs.160 per kg, traders said.  Karachiites consume around 400,000 poultry birds daily when prices are high. When live bird and its meat prices decline, the daily consumption reaches up to 450,000-500,000 birds. But nowadays, the consumptions shows even more decline than before.
