Mckinsey to reform Punjab tax system

LAHORE - A delegation of a prominent management consultant company, Mckinsey, led by its head for Asia Region, Gordon Orr met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. It was decided in the meeting that Punjab government and Mckinsey will cooperate in the reformation of tax system, controlling line losses of electricity and promotion of livestock. The Chief Minister said that there is a need for immediate measures for increasing resources and simplification of tax recovery system can help in this regard. He said that stringent measures need to be taken for curbing tax evasion. He said that reforms are being introduced in tax system in Punjab and it is being improved with the help of information technology. He said that additional resources generated through improvement in tax collection system will also be spent on the betterment of the masses.
He said that there is also a need to impart modern training to the officials of tax collection departments. He said that cooperation of Mckinsey in minimising line losses of electricity will be welcomed. He said that installation of smart meters can help control line losses and power theft. He said that Mckinsey can also cooperate in the development of livestock and dairy farming sector as its development can help strengthen national economy.
Gordon Orr said that Mckinsey will continue to cooperate with Punjab government in the reformation of tax system and minimising line losses. He said that final recommendation regarding development of livestock sector will soon be submitted.
