Ajmal Kasab Pakistani?

The Pakistani government has admitted that Ajmal Kasab, the sole survivor of the ten "terrorists" involved in the Mumbai attacks and currently in custody of the Indian Security Agencies, is a Pakistani citizen. National Security Adviser to the PM, Major General (Retired) Mahmood Ali Durrani, euphemistically referred to as General "Shanti" (peace) by his Indian friends and "MAD" an acronym of his name's initials by his erstwhile benefactor, General Pervez Musharraf, has already paid the price by losing his job for speaking out of line. However his admission, closely followed by admittance in equal haste by the information minister and foreign office spokesperson do not in any way prove that despite Ajmal Kasab's Pakistani origin, there is any connection between him and the Government of Pakistan, as being claimed by the Indian Prime Minister, who had till the Mumbai Incident, been considered as a soft-spoken and suave intellectual even in Pakistan. Dr Man-Mohan Singh is now spewing venom and fire, threatening Pakistan with dire consequences. He claims that since the Mumbai attacks were so painstakingly and meticulously planned, they must have been sponsored by Pakistan at the state-level. By Dr Man-Mohan Singh's own logic, the Mumbai attacks could have been planned by terror sponsors in India. How else does he explain the ease with which the ten-member terrorist squad move freely, unchecked loaded with heavy duty explosives, arms and ammunition into sensitive locations like the two five-star hotels and the Israeli synagogue-cum-guest house? They knew their way in a tourist's maze like Mumbai with such ease as if they knew the location like the back of their hands. Ajmal Kasab being a Pakistani does not necessarily mean that the people or the Government of Pakistan were involved in the heinous crime. After all, extending the logic of 9/11, the perpetrators of the attack on the New York Twin Towers and Pentagon were Egyptians or Saudis. The Government of USA or the other members of the coalition in the Global War On Terror threaten either Saudi Arabia or Egypt with dire consequences or consider their governments complicit in the odious deed. Moreover, Lahore-based lawyer C.M. Farooque has spoken on record that Ajmal Kasab along with a number of other Pakistanis, was arrested before 2006 from Katmandu by the Indian agencies with the help of Nepalese forces. This is not the first time that Indian security agencies have abducted Pakistanis, going to India legally, held them incognito and later killed them in cold blood and produced their bodies, along with identification papers, claiming them to be terrorists. On the other side, Indian nationals have been accused and even tried for faking encounters as well as being involved in various acts of terrorism in India. In fact one of the first casualties of the Mumbai attack was the head of the Anti-Terrorist Squad Hemant Karkare, along with two other members of his crack team of sleuths, who had unravelled the mystery of the Malegaon and Samjhota Express bomb blasts and apprehended a serving Indian Military Intelligence Lieutenant Colonel and retired Major, for being the real perpetrators of the crime. It does not stand to reason why Pakistan would stage the Mumbai attacks to eliminate Hemant Karkare, who was on the track of exposing not only Indian Military Intelligence's role in the terrorist attacks but also the collusion of Indian extremist Hindus, who were threatening Karkare with dire consequences. Let us examine some of the other "evidence" provided by India: Letter written by Ajmal Kasab seeking consular assistance from Pakistan, his confession, mobile phone Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs), tooth paste, cellular phone sets, milk powder, shaving cream etc, carrying "made in Pakistan" labels. It is preposterous to think that if ISI were to plan such an attack, it would clumsily permit such tell-tale evidence at the scene of the crime. The letter to the Pakistani diplomatic mission in India could have been authored by any one while the confession could have been obtained under duress or just prepared by any member of the Indian security agencies. The transcripts of the cell-phone conversations between the terrorists and their handlers can hardly be considered credible evidence. After all Colin Powell presented fake evidence, complete with pictures and illustrations, to the UN Security Council in February 2003, which led to invading Iraq and has so far resulted in the slaughter of "1,297,997" Iraqis, 4,223 US military personnel 'sacrificed' (officially acknowledged) and cost the US exchequer, $587,141,917,596. Indians are no angels. The best option for Pakistan would be to insist on joint investigations, preferably with neutral agencies like Interpol, otherwise there would be no end to Indian squabbling.
