Leaked story not national security breach: Nisar

| Says Bilawal a non-serious child, doesn’t know ABC of politics

ISLAMABAD -  The federal government again on Friday again while denying the authenticity of a leaked story about a national security meeting, said that the foreign secretary in his briefing never talked about the isolation of Pakistan internationally but spoke about its re-alignment in the wake of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

The foreign secretary in his briefing never said that Pakistan was facing isolation internationally due to inaction against the non-state actors but had talked about its re-alignment, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said, while addressing a press conference after inauguration of “NADRA Online Complaint Management System” at the NADRA Headquarters.

It is not a national security leak, as all the contents of the story are totally wrong and fabricated, the minister said.

He tried to dispel the impression that the civilian and military leadership have a difference of opinion with regard to action against non-state actors.

“As many as 34 high-level security meetings were held in the last three and a half year of this government and the civil and military leadership remained in all meetings on the same page about its policy against non-state actors in these meetings,” Khan said.

The story published in the Daily Dawn on October 6 titled “Act against militants or face international isolation, civilians tell military” had said that Pakistan was facing diplomatic isolation because of its inaction against some militant groups and military establishment had soft corner for some of them.

The major thrust of foreign secretary briefing, as given in the story, was wrong because secretary talked about re-alignment of countries in the world, about opportunities in it and had said some countries wanted to become part of the CPEC, the interior minister said.

The foreign secretary had talked about what options Pakistan had and what options the country’s enemies had.

“Yes, he said that enemy wanted to isolate us,” the minister added.

The other focus of the story was about the exchange of hot words between the ISI director-general and the chief minister Punjab was also totally wrong because this never happened.  “There was no difference of opinion between the two, what to speak of exchange of hot words,” the interior minister said.  “There were even no two opinions about action against non-state actors what to speak of exchange of hot words,” he stressed. Khan said that there was a unified policy of Pakistan about the non-state actors.

He said that there were 39 participants of the two meetings about national security about which the story was being attributed to.

The minister made it clear that the Dawn management would have to call back journalist Cyril Almeida, the writer of the story, from the US because he along with the editor Dawn would have to appear before the seven-member probe committee.

I want to make some findings about the publication of this story public, whatever I have seen so far, he said.

Though, the interior minister in his media talk tried to dispel the impression that the seven-member inquiry committee formed to probe the source behind the “wrong” story was impartial, yet some of his remarks made the committee more controversial.

He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not even know the head of the committee Justice (retd) Aamer Raza.

The interior minister also said the retired judge had reservations to continue as the head the committee because of the criticism being made on him in that connection. In response to a letter of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed to his name, in which he showed his concerns over the members of the committee, Nisar said that Rasheed’s allegations were incorrect.

Replying about the recent criticism of Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the PML-N, he said that Bilawal was a “non-serious child” and did not know the ABC of politics.

“He is insulting those people by calling as Chaha, Chaha (uncle) who are of the age of his father,” he said, in reference to the remarks of chairman PPP about Imran Khan.  He said that Bilawal did not even know a native language of this country.

“I am a dictator for those who want anarchy in this country,” the minister said, while replying about the remarks of Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak that interior minister had become a dictator.

“Law will take its course when someone will try to come to Islamabad with a lockdown plan,” the minister said.

He added that if someone would gather in Islamabad for a political show, protest or sit-in, the federal government would open its door as it did on November 2 for PTI rally at Parade Ground.

About the arrest of Sharbat Gula, he said that an inquiry had been ordered as to why she was arrested, as this should not have happened.

About the appointment of new Governor Sindh, the minister said that it had been decided some months earlier but a proper time was being awaited for. No one has unlimited tenure, he said.

The minister also directed the NADRA to devise a time mechanism to decide the cases of blocked identity cards.

He said that he had also directed the FIA to take action against those who used to initiate fake documents or start fake propaganda campaigns on social media.

The minister also informed the media that the passport office had cancelled 29,000 fake passports.
