Debut singers in Coke Studio 9 to bring change

LAHORE - They say diversity is strength. Coke Studio Season 9 with having six guest producers and number of veteran singers coming up in second week of August is promise to provide good music entertainment to people in the Pakistani brand of Coke Studio.  Legend Qawwali singer Amjad Sabri who was shot dead in target killing also recorded his debut appearance in Coke Studio in his Qawali, "Aj Rung Hai" with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

Junaid Khan of Call band is the name which needs no introduction but his performing in first time is a move which needed to be discussed. The pop music singer is coming up with pop music track in Coke Studio Season 9.

Talking to The Nation Junaid said the experience of working with the music producer Ali Noor was quite entertaining. “I have seen Coke Studio growing with all these year. I was approached by Coke Studio in the first season but due to some reasons the plan was dropped off,” Junaid said.

Juniad said he is going to perform a duet pop music track named ‘Mein Rasta’ which is Urdu song along with singer Momina Mustehsan. 

“After composing the song we shared it with Strings and after some changes we finalized it and recorded the song,” he said. 

“Yeah, the format of the coke Studio had been fusion of old songs, but my song is different and unique surely audience will like it. The is not a remake, it is a song which is completely new,” he said. 

Pakistani music industry is growing and if people are supporting the music than it is good sign for Pakistan. “It is a platform which represents the indigenous and local music to the world and followed worldwide,” he said.“I sang the song with my heart and with utmost dedication so as the expectations are high and surely song catches huge following,” Junaid said.  It is pertinent note that Indian singer Shilpa Rao is also performing in Coke Studio. Ali Khan who got famed from the single track ‘Sathiya’ told The Nation that surely performing in the biggest music platform of Pakistan was great. “I am very much surprised by the level of professionalism in the Coke Studio and it was great learning experience.  Everything was smoothly done while recoding and discussing on song and no mayhem or chaos at all,” Ali said.

Ali said that he worked with Jaffer Zaidi who was very intelligent music producer and I know I could have not done the song this much better without Jaffer. “The season would be mix of both traditional and fresh songs as Coke Studio following its traditional line up to fuse the old classic tracks with contemporary era and to introduce it with new generation,” Ali said.  Recalling his memories on Sathiya song Ali Khan said the song immediately went hit and after that I was approached by the Tips India but the after Bombay Attacks in 2008 the deal was not honored and it was not favorable to work in that environment. “I was associated with Urdu 1as music producer and produced many OSTs. The Coke Studio is a completely different format and people will like song,” he said.  

Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat made her singing debut with the season 9 of Coke Studio.
