12 popular misconceptions about Pakistan

Pakistan is a beautiful and an amazing country with a lot to offer to the world. Unfortunately, the world sees us from the lenses and screens of stereotypical media. Before you start believing everything you should just see this video:

1. All women wear burqas

That's not true at all. Like all societies Pakistan is also divided into the conservative and the liberal class, women dress accordingly. The street fashion is diversified and difers from urban to rural areas. Women are absolutely capable.




2. Pakistanis are uneducated and illiterate

There are 163,000 primary schools in Pakistan, 1267 colleges and 174 universities. Pakistan has 7th largest pool of Engineers and Doctors. Mohammad Abdus Salam was a Pakistani theoretical physicist. Salam, a major figure in 20th century theoretical physics, shared the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physics with Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg for his contribution to the landmark electroweak unification.

3. Medieval Transportation

Yes there are still donkey cart and horse carts, but they are balanced out by fashionably new cars on the streets.

4. Cities are underdeveloped

Pakistani cities are not like the way western media shows you, homeland a TV show was such a big disappointment with absolutely nobody in their crew being in touch with the ground reality. Cities are clean and green. Vegetation is quite abundant.

5. People don’t party

Pakistani weddings are the most elaborate and festive. With art and literary festivals all year round, Pakistan is a place where people celebrate life.

6. We all speak arabic or "Pakistanian"

That is not true we all speak Urdu. 

7. Men with turbans roam around our cities

Men are pretty much roaming around in t-shirts and jeans in summers. And add a jacket to that in winters. You know men can be pretty dapper when they want to be.

 

8. We all have weapons at our homes

Protests, strikes and war zone images pop up in your head, because that is what the media potrays. Pakistan has the most beautiful valleys, hill stations and sights ever. So, no we just go to our jobs and come home like normal people do. But seriously, who came up with this one? 

9. Pakistan is in the Middle East

No. It is not. Pakistan is in South Asia.


10. Child marriages and polygamous society

Child marriages are condemned by the society in general and polygamy too. 

11. Fashion, sports and entertainment is unknown to us

Pakistanis love cricket. Fashion shows are a regular thing with models and yeah the whole thing…

12. All Pakistanis hate Americans

Not true at all. We only have time to hate blackouts and load-shedding. Thanks to our government.
