ISLAMABAD - Department of Electronics, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) will hold an international conference on “Nano Science and Technology” from today (Monday) to October 5 to highlight the need of technologies in the country, which can harness quantum effects and have huge potential and future.
Scientists from Pakistan and around the globe, including some renowned names in the field of nano sciences and nano technologies like Gernot Alber (Germany), Vanderlei S Bagnato (Brzail), Andreas Buchleitner (Germany), Kohzo Hakuta (Japan), Markku Jaaskelainen (Sweden), Irene Mazoli (Italy), Talat S Rahman (USA), Chen Wang (China), will participate in the conference.
The conference is first of its kind that under one umbrella, diverse and different applications of nano-technology will be brought to light.
The conference will cover the areas of Surface Probe Nano Scopy, Nano Electronics, Nano Photonics, Nano Devices, Nano-Electro Opto Mechanical Systems (NEOMS), Nano Biotechnology, Nano Materials, Bose-Einstein Condensation and Quantum Metrology.
Nano technology is presenting possibilities, which could have been never imagined, such as, engineering devices with few atoms.

In drug delivery, Nano Technology has been a boom for the medical field by delivering drugs to specific cells using nano-particles.
The overall drug consumption and side effects can be lowered significantly by depositing the active agent in the morbid region only.
This highly selective approach reduces costs and human suffering. Nano-technology can help to reproduce damaged tissue. Tissue engineering might replace today’s conventional treatments like organ transplants or artificial implants.
