ISLAMABAD - The funeral of the mother of Dr Moeed Pirzada, anchorperson of Waqt News, and famous poetess Shabnam Shakeel was held here on Sunday.It was attended by a large number of writers and intellectuals from Rawalpinid and Islamabad. Abdul Hameed, Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), laid a floral wreath. It was announced by the Chairman PAL Abdul Hameed that PAL will organise a Shabnam Shakeel Literary Reference at Islamabad to pay tribute on services of Shabnam Shakeel in the field of literature. This Reference will be held at PAL, Islamabad on International Women Day i.e. 8th March 2013 (Friday). The contribution of Shabnam Shakeel to highlight the women problems in society through her writings, will be the main theme of this Reference, Chairman, PAL further added.Hundreds of people including relatives, family members, members of literary organizations and teachers of various colleges and universities attended the funeral prayers of the deceased offered in F-11 Graveyard.It should be mentioned that Shabnam Shakeel was born on March 12‚ 1942 in Lahore and died at the age of 71 years. She worked as lecturer at different government colleges for women before opting for premature retirement. She was awarded Pride of Performance Award in 2004. Her poetic collection includes Shabzad‚ Iztaraab and Musafat Raigan.
