Water shortage persists in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI (INP) Various parts of Cantonment Board and the city have been hit with shortage of water and residents are facing many difficulties to get water for domestic use. A large number of men, women and children could be seen bringing water in pots, buckets besides long queues waiting for their turn to get water as its consumption increase many times during the summer season. Moreover, some areas were provided water supply for half-an-hour to an hour every alternate day which was not sufficient.
Residents of Jandha Chichi talking to INP complained that they have been facing acute water shortage due to out of order tube well No#28 from last five days adding that tube well No# 29 was reported dysfunctional from last three years.
When contacted, cantonment board official said that unannounced power cuts and decreased water supply from CDA were the reasons behind water shortage. Water is provided through tankers wherever water scarcity reported, officials said, Cantt Board receive Rs50 million per anum in terms of water bills while expenses are around Rs250 million on water supply.
On the other hand, Water and Sanitation Agency Managing Director Raja Shoukat Mehmood said that due to decrease in water supply from Khanpur dam some parts of the city are connected with alternate lines to ensure water supply besides water tankers to various localities.
