ISLAMABAD - Top bureaucrats of the country have started lobbying for securing the coveted post of chairman Federal Public Service Commission as Secretary to Prime Minster Javed Aslam and Lt Gen Nasir Khan Janjua are the strongest candidates for the slot, The Nation learnt on Sunday.
The sources informed this scribe that the ex-chairman FPSC Maj Gen (retd) Niaz Muhammad Khan Khattak had retired on July 27th but the government neither appointed nor finalized the name of new chairman. They said that Javeed Aslam would retire on November 10 and Let Gen Nasir Jangua on October 4, 2015. The case of two-year extension in service of Javeed Aslam is also under consideration, the sources added.
The sources further said that the senior bureaucrats were making efforts for the appointment of Javeed Aslam as he was very close to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and had also served on key posts in Punjab in the last tenure of PML-N. The incumbent government had appointed Javeed Aslam as secretary to PM after resuming charge.
On the other hand, Lt Gen Nasir Khan Janjua is a well reputed army officer and he is also a strong candidate for this post, the sources added.
The sources in Establishment Division informed that the post of chairman FPSC was a key post but surprisingly the government was not looking serious for the appointment of new chairman.
They said that the government should appoint the new chairman FPSC before October as the meeting of Central Selection Board is also scheduled in the first week of October. The chairman FPSC chairs meeting of the Central Selection Board and the CSB reviews promotion cases of grade 20 and 21 officers.
