168 public vehicles challaned in Capital

ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) during traffic checking drive has challaned 168 public service vehicles and imposed fine amounting Rs 63,500 on the offenders for various traffic violations in the last week, says a press release. Secretary of ITA Asia Gul said that fine had been imposed on the offenders involved in misbehaving with the commuters during traffic checking in the capital. She also said that Islamabad Capital Territory (Administration had also started replacing down model public service vehicles with the new ones. The route permits of down model vehicles up to 1994 are being cancelled and these steps are being taken to provide better transport facilities to the commuters, she added. Secretary of ITA further said that ongoing drive against illegal taxies plying without permits had also been intensified and action had been taken against 99 private cars, so far, which were found using as taxies in the city. The taxi boards fixed on the private cars have been confiscated and heavy fines have been imposed on the offenders with a warning that next time such vehicles will be impounded, she informed. APP reports: The Capital police here on Sunday arrested seven accused allegedly involved in illegal activities and recovered two snatched mobile phones, stolen valuables worth Rs 20,000, charas and three 30-bore pistols along with 13 rounds from their possession. Sub Inspector Muhammad Tehseen of Golra Police Station arrested accused Gul Rehman allegedly involved in illegal activities and recovered a 30-bore pistol along with four rounds and stolen valuablables worth Rs 20,000 from his possession. Whereas, ASI Muhammad Iqbal arrested three accused Hazrat, Shahiid and Mehmood Khan allegedly involved in mobile snatching incidents and recovered two mobile phones worth Rs 17,000 from their possession, police sources said. Sub Inspector Fazl-ur-Rehman of Tarnol Police Station during the routine patrolling apprehnded accused Rehman Zada and confisciated 500 grams charas. The ASI, Tarhir Mehmood of Shalimar Police Station arrested accused Mubark and recovered a 32-bore pistol and four rounds from his possession.
