ISLAMABAD - Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan Saturday rejected the three-member committee constituted by the Punjab government to investigate the other day’ incident of stampede in Multan that had killed at least seven people and left many injured.
The provincial government of Punjab had formed a three-member committee headed by Secretary Environment Iqbal Muhammad to investigate the stampede incident at PTI’ rally in Qasim Bagh Multan, the other day, which also injured more than 43 participants.
Imran Khan addressing the participants of the sit-in here on Saturday night said that he had no confidence in the inquiry of the investigation team. He also said that he had no confidence in the inquiry committee of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif. Imran Khan questioned as to why electricity of the stadium was disconnected and why water was thrown on the participants of the rally. “I will leave no stone unturned to get provide justice to the martyrs of the incident,” he showed his firm resolve. “Why only two gates of the stadium were opened despite the fact that a large number of people had gathered there,” he questioned and added that the responsibility of the security was of the district administration. Imran Khan said that he would visit Multan today to meet with the families of martyrs. “I have no confidence in Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif,” he said. The PTI cannot be held responsible for the incident, he said while responding to the accusations of the government. He said that police had become a silent spectator when people trapped inside the stadium. He advised his supports not to vote any candidate in next elections who would not declare his assets. Imran Khan lashed out at PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and said, “Don’t worry, Asif Zardari, about the sources of funding for the PTI rallies as masses are providing money to the party,” he said. “I ask Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari why they are not willing to declare their assets,” he added.
The PTI chief said that said that government was getting loans for debt servicing. He said that power tariff was being increased to get the instalments of IMF. “The oil prices have decreased up to 20 per cent in international market during the last six months but benefit was not passed on to the masses,” Imran Khan said, adding that per liter petrol price should have come down up to 15 rupees.
He said that they would have to increase their income and for that matter would have to improve tax system as both rich and poor were paying the same tax.
Imran said that the prime minister and his cabinet members should declare their assets. He said that in US and other worlds no one countries contest elections unless he would not declare his assets, sources of income and details of taxes paid.
