Islamabad  - The Federal Flood Commission, Ministry of Water and Power, on Monday started two-day final round of consultation for 10 years National Flood Protection Plan-IV and preparedness for monsoon season of 2015. The consultative workshop was inaugurated by Secretary Ministry of Water and Power Muhammad Younus Dagha. All stakeholders including NDMA, PDMAs, provincial authorities, representatives of FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, World Bank and other relevant organisations, and consultants attended the meeting. The objective of the meeting was to devise a broad-based national plan for protection against floods during the next 10 years and evolving a strategy for effective preparedness for monsoon season of 2015.

During the meeting around 1,000 small and big projects were discussed which will be initiated under the national plan. The federal government, provincial governments and other donor agencies would fund these 1,000 projects.
The plan would be based on the studies conducted by National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) in association with Deltares, Netherland.
In the two-day meeting, participants will finalise proposals regarding reducing floods, reducing susceptibility to damages in wake of floods and mitigating the flood impacts on the citizens. The officials said that aim of the workshop was to strengthen the Federal Flood Commission so that it can come up with integrated and effective national plan for flood management.
