Rawalpindi - Police during a crackdown have arrested 156 people on the charge of selling or flying kites from different localities of the city and recovered some 20,000 kites, besides twines and weapons, from their possession.
A total of 133 cases have also been registered against the accused, disclosed City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi while talking to media persons outside his office on Saturday.
Abbasi said that police adopted zero-tolerance policy towards kite fliers and sellers since the Punjab government has imposed complete ban over flying kites in the province. “No one will be allowed to violate the ban and police teams are out to deal the violators with an iron hand,” Abbasi said, adding that no political pressure would be accepted for release of any accused.
Responding to media queries, the CPO said that no body was killed or injured in kite flying related incidents in the city.
He said that most of the violations were made in Rawal and Potohar divisions. He added that the business of kite-flying was booming on local level and police would conduct raids to close down the business.
