Islamabad - The Sanitation Directorate of Capital Development Authority (CDA) would start door-to-door mechanical collection of household waste and litter by Monday from the residential sectors of Islamabad.
For this purpose specially designed vehicles would be used for door-to-door collection of waste and the collected waste would be scientifically disposed of at the dumping site.
According to a statement released by CDA, the Authority would formally start door-to-door mechanical collection of household waste and garbage on Monday from the residential Sector I-8/3 during first phase.  “This environment friendly and modern technique would not only help improve sanitation facilities in the city but will also help enhance efficiency of the Sanitation Directorate,” statement added.
This initiative of the Authority would ease the extra burden from sanitation staff which would eventually be deputed at other areas of Islamabad in order to make sanitation system of Islamabad exemplary.
During the next phase mechanical collection of household waste would be replicated in the whole federal capital. The CDA has requested the residents of Islamabad for their cooperation in making Islamabad more clean and tidy.
Earlier, Chairman CDA, Maroof Afzal has approved purchase of machinery and up-gradation of Sanitation Directorate on modern lines in order to improve daily cleanliness and disposal of waste on modern lines.
In this connection, two (02) Hydraulic Refuse Packers, two (02) garbage compactors, two (02) Skip lifters, two (02) large garbage containers skip lifters and four (04) tractors along with mechanical sweepers are being provided to Sanitation Directorate in order enhance its efficiency.
The addition of this machinery in the fleet of Sanitation Directorate would help enhance the progress of the Directorate and disposal of around 600 tons of garbage, which is being collected on daily basis, on scientific and modern lines.
Moreover, repair and maintenance of existing vehicles on the pool of Sanitation Directorate has also been started, statement added.
Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal said that Islamabad is the only planned capital of the world and to enhance its beauty both traditional and scientific means are being used to keep Islamabad neat and tidy.
He expressed the hope that mechanical collection will help improve daily collection of household waste and the additional sanitation staff will be deputed to other areas of Islamabad.
