ISLAMABAD - Minister of Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has said Pakistan is keen to enhance the existing cooperation with Iraq in all fields, including defence sector for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
According to a spokesperson of Ministry of Defence, Rana Tanveer Hussain who is currently visiting Iraq stated this in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Dr. Khalid Yassin al-Obeidi.
“The expansion of bilateral cooperation between Iraq and Pakistan will provide economic underpinning to the political relationship”, sad Rana Tanveer Hussain.
He highlighted that Pakistan is willing to provide all possible assistance for revamping of Iraqi security forces. Pakistan has actively participated in most of the international conferences held on reconstruction of Iraq.
He mentioned that Pakistan and Iraq have been cooperating in the field of defence, mainly encompassing training of defence personnel and exchange of defence delegations. He suggested that Iraq may like to benefit from Pakistan Military training potential as well. He asked Dr. Khalid Yassin al-Obeidi that Iraq may indicate their future requirements so that Pakistan can offer a suitable delivery schedule. It was hoped that recent visits of Pakistan and Iraq defence delegations will further enhance bilateral defence relations.
During the visit, Pakistan offered provision of human resources and training of personnel to Iraq. Rana Tanveer Hussain expressed gratitude for hospitality and reassured Dr. Khalid Yassin al-Obeidi that Pakistan supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Iraq.
A stable and prosperous Iraq could safeguard Iraqi citizen’s interests. Pakistan is keen and sincere in extending all out support to Iraqi Security Forces in their rebuilding pursuits.
