Rawalpindi - Police have decided to use drones to detect kite flyers and persons involved in aerial firing in the city, informed police spokesman yesterday.
He added that City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi also constituted special raiding teams to curb kite flying and arrest those who are involved in resorting to firing in jubilation. He added that the CPO also ordered to depute police personnel in civvies in all the streets to take swift action against the kite flyers and other violators spotted by drones. He said that special informers have also been assigned the task to detect the kite dealers in the district so that raids could be conducted to curb kite sale.
“The Basant has been completely banned in the city and no one will be allowed to celebrate the dangerous festival,” the spokesman said.
On the other hand, police during an action against kite dealers held 22 accused and recovered 1,656 kites and 67 rolls of twines from their possession, he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Dr Sataish carried out surprise raids at different markets in cantonment and garrison areas yesterday and fined shopkeepers for selling unhygienic food items at exorbitant rates. She warned the shopkeepers to avoid playing havoc with the health and lives of consumers or else strict action would be taken against them.
According to details, Dr Sataish conducted raids in Qasim Market and Tariqabad areas and checked hotels, restaurants, bakeries, fruit shops and superstores, and imposed Rs 17,000 fine.
Talking to media persons, she said that the government had ordered the district government to take legal action against hoarders, profiteers and those selling unhygienic food items to the consumers. She appealed to the citizens to register their complaints against profiting with AC Office so that stern action could be taken against the responsible. Dr Sataish ordered the shopkeepers to display price list at some visible place of their shops.
