Inflation keeps shoppers away from Sunday Bazaar

ISLAMABAD - The poverty-stricken people are forced to keep away from the Sunday bazaars and other markets mainly because of the skyrocketing prices of edibles and other items of daily use as well as the deteriorating law and order situation. The masses hit by the inflation are inclined to visit Sunday Bazaars but even there they find it impossible to buy different items that they need for their kitchen as there is no relief for them in the face of mounting financial constraints and problems. A survey conducted by TheNation here on Sunday revealed that the large number of stalls at Weekly Bazaars were closed owing to rampant inflation while many stall holders were fleecing the customers in total disregard to the rate lists issued by Capital Development Authority. Ayesha Bibi a housewife questioned, "Owing to skyrocketing prices how the poor person could purchase edible items as chicken is being sold at Rs.106 per kilogram while carrots are being sold at Rs.30 per kilogram." A shopkeeper Muhammad Ramzan while expressing his views, said the shopkeepers were getting fruit on higher rates form wholesale market so they are compelled to sell it at higher prices. Though the Bazaars rates were 15 to 20pc cheaper than market's rates. As onion were being sold in different markets per (5Kg) Rs.150 while the Sunday Bazaar's rate was Rs.100, Tomato were being sold the market as 40 Per KG while the Bazaar's rate was Rs.30 similarly fruits were also being sold at Sunday Bazaars as cheaper rates than Markets. Despite it customers were reluctant to visit the Sunday Bazaars.    During the visit, it was also observed that Bazaars' administration was lack of security as there was only 3 guards deployed at 5 gates. While talking to this scribe, Chief Inspector of G/6 Bazaar Muhammad Zahoor said " We are  lack of security guards. He said earlier some police officials from Special Branch were cooperating with the Bazaars' Administration regarding the security while at present they were not cooperating with us due to which we are facing security related problems" he added. The Bazaar's administration demanded of the government to install security scanners at the Bazaar's entrance to tackle the security issues. To a query, CDA's official said that if any customers register complaint against the overcharging, the administration would take immediate action against the profiteers, adding today (Sunday) we have fined 20 stallholders for overcharging.
