Islamabad - Crime rate in the federal capital has considerably declined in the year 2015 as compared to the previous year, said police on Friday.
A comparative assessment of crime data from the month of September 2014 to March 2015 revealed that the cases of murder, kidnapping for ransom, dacoity, theft, robberies, street crime, car and motorcycle lifting and snatching have considerably decreased in Islamabad due to effective crime control measures, regular vigilance and monitoring by the Islamabad police. Similarly, the recovery rate of illicit weapons, narcotics and stolen goods has been increased by 25 per cent as a result of effective crime control mechanism adopted by the Islamabad police, says a press release issued by the local police.
It claimed the murder cases have reduced by 18 percent, kidnapping for ransom cases by 33 percent, dacoity cases by 49 percent, robbery cases by 40 percent, theft cases by 45 percent, car lifting by 27 percent and motor cycles theft by 7 percent.
According to details, on the special directions of Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan, IGP Tahir Alam Khan took special security and crime control measures and ensured the protection of life and property of citizens. He focused on detection of crimes through involving the citizens in crime control, community policing and constitution of citizen vigilance committees at police station level. Comparison of crime data depicts that 69 case of murder were registered in Islamabad from September 2014 to date, whereas 84 murder cases were registered during the corresponding period in last year — an 18 per cent reduction the crime.
During the same period, 6 cases of kidnapping for ransom have been registered in Islamabad, whereas 9 cases were registered in the corresponding period last year, showing a decline in the crime by 33 percent. Thirty-two cases of dacoity have been registered in Islamabad this year so far whereas 63 cases were registered during the corresponding period last year, registering a decline of 49 per cent. Similarly, 262 cases of robberies have been registered in the year 2015 so far whereas 435 cases were registered last year, showing a decline of 40 percent.
Likewise, 177 cases of burglaries have been registered so far whereas 270 cases were registered in the corresponding period last year, registering a decline of 45 percent. Some 382 cases of vehicle lifting have been registered so far in year 2015 whereas 521 cases were registered in the corresponding period last year, registering a decline of 27 percent, said the press release.
