Resilient Fakhar saves Islamabad from embarrassment

ISLAMABAD A sparkling innings by Fakhar Hussain (74) helped Islamabad earn 52 runs lead over Quetta in the Quaid-I-Azam Trophy match here at Diamond Club Ground on Thursday. Quetta reached 253 for six in their second innings at stumps. Earlier, hosts Islamabad resumed their innings at 112 for seven and added 103 runs in their total to post 215 on the board. Fakhar contributed lions share with 74. He faced only 50 ball and hit three sixes and 12 boundaries. Nazar Hussain and Arun Lal shared three wickets each for the Quetta by conceding 72 and 69 runs respectively. Arshad Khan claimed two wickets. Quetta scored 253 in their second innings and were 201 runs ahead with four wickets to spare. Shahzad Tareen (70), Atta-ur-Rehman (52 not out) and Shoaib Khan (35) were the top scorer for Quetta. Nasrullah Khan and Amir Khan chipped in two wickets each for Islamabad by conceding 57 and 52 runs respectively. Quetta will restart their innings on Friday (today). Rawalpindi in sight of victory Top class bowling display by Muhammad Rameez (6 for 50) took Rawalpindi to winning position against Karachi Blues in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy cricket match here at National cricket ground F-7/3 on Friday. Karachi Blues opened their innings at 54 for four and were bundled out for just 132 runs in 50.5 overs. Wajihuddin (26) and Tanvir Ahmed (29) were the top scorers for the visitors. Seven wickets for 70 runs by Tanvir Ahmed rattled Rawalpindis batting line, as they could score only 161 runs in their second innings. They set the target of 301 for Karachi Blue to win the four-day match. Qaiser took 168 balls to reach his three figures that took NBP total to 412 in 121 overs. NBP resumed its innings from an overnight score of 267 for five with Qaiser Abbas playing at 60 and Mansoor Amjad 7. Although wickets kept falling from the other end, Qaiser kept his nerves to stay on the crease and consolidated the total. In reply, HBL was playing at 207 for five in 43 overs. Lahore Shalimar in drivers seat against Wapda Lahore Shalimar gathered 85-run second innings lead over Wapda after scoring 139 runs on day-two of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fourth round match here at the LCCA ground on Thursday. At the close of play, Lahore were 139 for four in their second innings in 39.4 overs. Resuming the innings at 100 for four, Wapda gathered 227 runs, moving 54 runs ahead of Lahore in the first innings and afterwards in the second, Lahore not only surpassed the lead but took the lead to 85 runs. When Wapda resumed innings, they added jus 127 runs to their first innings with Ali Azmat 42 being the prominent batsman. Lahores Mohammad Saeed did the main damage by taking six wickets in his 21.3 overs conceding 82 runs. In its second innings, Lahores Abdi Ali scored 64 runs while Mohammad Saad got 35 to get their team ahead of Wapdas first innings total. Now Lahore has six wickets in hand to score maximum possible runs to bowl out Wapda as early as possible for their first win of the season. Khurram slams ton as PIA smell victory Opener Khurram Manzoor hit another century to carry PIA first innings to a big first innings total on the second day of the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match against Karachi Whites here at the National Stadium on Thursday. PIA ended second-day play at 375 for four wickets with Khurram Manzoor hitting 133. He added 181 runs for the first wicket partnership with Agha Sabir who contributed 98 runs to the partnership. And for the third wicket partnership Khurram and Shoaib Khan (68) put on 108 runs. Karachi Whites, which had slumped for paltry 192 in the first knock, have conceded 183 runs lead to the airlines which has gained winning grip over the match. PIA resumed its first innings at overnight total of 60 for no loss with Khurram Manzoor unbeaten 24 and Agha Sabir 26 not out. The two batted on majestically punishing the home bowlers. Khurram Manzoor batted aggressively and raced to his third century of the competition. He left after hitting twenty fours in his stay of 274 ball that ended when he was caught off Ali Mudassir for 133. But before he left he for the third wicket stand added 108 with Shoaib khan who came at the fall of Agha Sabir shortly after lunch break. Agha Sabir was no less aggressive. He batted for 155 balls hitting 16 fours and a six before falling two short of a deserving hundred caught off Misbah Khan. Shoaib Khan scored 68 before falling to Tabish Khan. At the end of the days play, Sarfaraz Ahmed was not out 26 and Jan Nisar Khan 20 not out. Misbah Khan took two for 83. Friday is the third day of the match.
