JI demands cut in fares

KARACHI - Former Jamaat-e-Islami legislators on Wednesday expressed their deep concern at the rampant price-hike despite a visible decline in petroleum prices.
Coming down hard on the government for its failure to ensure price control laws, they stressed that the govt should issue a new notification reducing transport fares and prices of utility items, especially petroleum by-products.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, former legislators of JI, Muzaffar Hashmi, Laiq Khan  and Hameedullah said that traders, wholesalers and transporters did not hesitate to increase prices after increase in POL prices.
but after the cut the prices were not reduced to match the reduction.
They said that despite reduction of POL prices in International Markets, the benefit was not transferred to common man. The profiteers were minting money because of government’s negligence.
They said that the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Price Control should have already issued notification regarding this issue.
