CJP stresses for provision of alternate dispute resolution system to administer speedy justice to people

KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali has underscored the need for provision of alternate dispute resolution system in rural areas, to administer speedy and inexpensive justice to the people.

He said this while addressing a seminar today. He held that judiciary was performing its functions independently and criticism on the existing judicial system is inappropriate.
The court’s orders are not implemented in their true letter and spirit, he observed. There is no flaw in our judicial system.

“We are part of the society which lacks fear of God. Instead of implementing court’s orders, method is adopted to escape it. No difference is left between truth and falsehood and lawful and unlawful. Mother and daughter of the victim record statements in the court but the witnesses become hostile.

He held that delay in deciding the cases are creating problems. Steps are taken in urban areas for resolution of disputes. Disputes are decided through Jirgas in rural areas which are not correct, he remarked. A system should be in place in rural areas for resolution of disputes. He urged the media to highlight alternate dispute resolution system.
