Women’s active participation in politics stressed

KARACHI—Two-days training workshop for women politicians on “Peace Building and Leadership” was organised by Insan Foundation Trust (IFT) in collaboration with Search for Common Ground Pakistan (SFCG). Twenty four former district assembly members and aspiring women politicians from various districts of Sindh representing different political parties namely PPP, PML-N, PML-F, MQM, PP -Shaheed Bhutto and Awami Party participated in the workshop.The training was conducted under the project of “Strengthening Women Parliamentarians in Pakistan for Effective Government” and was aimed at equipping the participants with collaborative approaches to problem solving as effective women political leaders in Pakistan. Kishwar Sultana, Executive Director IFT, conducted different sessions related to advocacy, leadership qualities, consensus building, problem solving and decision making styles. The participants shared that this training has provided them a platform to move forward in a uniformed manner as effective leaders while equipping them with skills to face and accept challenges in a positive manner. “Women leaders are playing a dynamic role in every sector of Pakistan,” said Country Director SFCG Pakistan, Ammara Durrani. “They are leading as harbingers of a culture of democratic, inclusive and pluralistic socio-political and economic processes in our society.”The facilitators were able to familiarise the participants with new concepts that pave way for working towards a collaborative approach through this training. Particularly the participants felt that it is very important for women politicians to go through a series of such transformational leadership workshops which al5low greater participation and representation at all platforms.
