Woman gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI - A firing incident in the city's Lines Area claimed the life of a woman, as assailants shot her dead on Sunday.

According to Rescue sources, the woman was critically wounded due to the shooting incident. While she was being shifted to the hospital, the injured woman succumbed to her wounds. The armed shooters who had opened gunfire on the woman had fled the scene. According to details, a 32-year-old Aqeela was killed while her husband, Amanullah was wounded in a firing incident near to their home in Lines Area in the limits of Brigade police station. The woman and her husband were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and medical treatment. Following an incident, a score of residents of Lines Area took to streets and blocked the Corridor III by setting tyres on fire and demanded the arrest of culprits.

Following the protest, extra contingent of law enforcers reached the site and clam the protesters down while assuring them of their fully cooperation. The protesters, however, ended their protest after the police assured them.

There were some unconfirmed reports that the culprits opened fire at a woman after she resisted over kidnapping of her child, however, the victim’s husband who was also wounded in the attack said that the incident occurred over personal enmity and had no connect with the kidnapping.

Brigade SHO Raja Tanvir said that deceased’s brother-in-law Zeeshan is a key-suspect behind the incident, adding that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted the victims.

The officer further said that Zeeshan dispatched two armed motorcyclists to kill his brother and a sister-in-law over property dispute, adding that the victim’s husband told the police that he would register a case against his brother. Further investigation was underway.
