ASH doctor among 5 succumb to karachi violence

KARACHI - At least five people including a doctor of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital were gunned down in different areas of the city on Sunday.
According to police, two brothers were shot dead by unidentified gunmen near a sweets shop in Khokhrapar area of Malir. Two others were also injured in the incident.
The brothers were identified as Tanvir and Tauseef. Tension prevailed in the area after their killing.
Meanwhile, two tortured dead bodies were recovered from Baldia Town of the city.
Meanwhile, the terror of target killing could not stop in Karachi as Dr. Arif Mustafa of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital died by the firing of unknown armed persons in Buffer Zone.
According to details, Dr. Arif Mustafa was enroute to the hospital when the target killers opened fire and killed him whereas Rabitta Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement has condemned the brutal murder of Dr. Arif and has also demanded the detention of culprits.
57 shopkeepers fined
for profiteering
The Karachi Divisional and District Administration has challaned 57 shopkeepers and fined Rs82,500 for profiteering and adulteration, said Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui here on Sunday.
In a statement, he further said these shopkeepers included milk-sellers, grocers and meat sellers. They were challaned in Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Saddar, SITE, Orangi Town, Baldia, Manghopir, Civil Lines and a number of other areas.
Hyderabad: 3 robbers killed in encounter
Agencies from Hyderabad add: At least three robbers were killed and two cops injured in exchange of fire during a raid here on Sunday. According to details, the police on a tip off launched crackdown in Hatri area of Hyderabad during which the robbers taking shelter in the area offered strong resistance.
Two cops were injured in firing by the accused which continued for about half an hour.All the three robbers were killed in firing of police. The bodies and injured policemen were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Police said that the accused killed in encounter were wanted by various police stations in a number of cases of robberies, picket looting and other crimes.
Meanwhile, Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon inaugurated eight Reverse Osmosis plants for water in different villages of Husri Town in Hyderabad Rural tehsil.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the Sindh government was implementing several development projects to make Hyderabad Rural tehsil a model rural town in the province. He said the installation of the RO plants was an old demand of the local people.
The minister directed the concerned departments to complete all the development projects without delay so that the people could benefit from the schemes.
Memon assured the people that their problems would be addressed on priority.
Separately, the power supply in all 12 districts in the region of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company remained suspended for up to 12 hours on Sunday.
HESCO's spokesman, Sadiq Kubar said that the shutdown was sudden and the supply to all the districts also went off simultaneously. He informed that the restoration of power supply started from 1 pm on Sunday and it took the HESCO more than two hours to resume the supply completely in the region by 3 pm.
Kubar, however, said the HESCO had not been officially informed about the cause of the breakdown which occurred in the system of National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC).
