‘Rich’ Sindh paying 381 dead staffers


KARACHI - The Sindh govt is spending over Rs10 billion on ghost employees annually who are working under fake computerised national identity cards as well as doing dual services.
Addressing a press conference at Sindh Secretariat on Saturday evening, Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri said The Sindh government sent the record of all Rs4,01388 were sent to AG office for verification. Out of them, 3,27,528 employees have original identity cards while, 73,810 employees have old identity cards, which have been banned since 2004.
Marri said that when present government checked the record of the employees, it was disclosed that at least 21,438 government employees have fake national identity cards. Before sacking them from government services, the government will give them show-cause notice and hear their point of view. It has also been unveiled that a huge number of 1,264 government employees who doing dual jobs and also taking two salaries from the government treasury. Cases of such employees will be sent to the Anti-Corruption Department to look into it for further action against them under Section 420 and other offences.
The further startling disclosure is that a huge number of 73,810 employees working without national identity cards, and working with expired old cards, which have been banned since 2004, she said.
