Ebad sees big investment from UK



KARACHI  - Bishop of London, Declan here on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over Pakistan government’s efforts and the people of Pakistan’s positive attitude for promotion of religious harmony.He was talking to media persons at the Governor House, after meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan. The Bishop, who belonged to Catholic community in London and is on his first visit to Pakistan, underlined the need to build a dialogue among different religions and cultures in the world. “I hope, we will build dialogue in religions and cultures,” he remarked.   British Deputy High Commissior Jam Cronil and David Royal accompanied him. He said that the United Kingdom was a pluralistic country where people from different parts of the world having different beliefs were living in complete harmony. Pakistanis in England were also playing a very important role in the country’s prosperity and development, he acknowledged.He said that the Catholic community in Pakistan had a long history in Pakistan. It had been contributing in various sectors specially in eduction and health. He hoped that it would continue rather enhance its role in future in the socio-economic uplift of Pakistan. The Bishop appreciated the hospitality of Pakistani people.  Pakistan has various cultures and languages, and this diversity will greatly contribute in economic prosperity and development of this country, he added.Despite different cultures, he noted, the United Kingdom and Pakistan have many similarities. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan appreciated Bishop’s remarks about Pakistan and its people.The governor informed the media that during his recent visit to London, he had successful meetings with the British Prime Minister and businessmen there. The investors and other people from the UK have started visiting Pakistan, he said.The British investors have also shown their interest to invest in various sectors in Pakistan, including pharmaceutical and a big investment is expected, he added.“Very popular brands of UK are coming in, despite negative perception about Pakistan,” he said adding that there was a big gap between the perception and the reality. Pakistan was a very beautiful country.He hoped that the political and economic ties between Pakistan and Britain would strengthen further.He said that his visit to Belfast also proved very productive. There he had meetings with people related to different sectors, including eduction and learnt a lot from their experiences and progress.The governor described the Bishop’s visit as very important for promotion of religious harmony. He acknowledged the Christian community’s contribution on different accounts in Pakistan.The Pakistan government is doing its best to eliminate extremism and sectarianism, and to promote harmony among the different communities living in the country. Very good results on this account have started to come in, he said.He said that one of the major challenges to Pakistan was poverty and urged the world community to support Pakistan in bringing social and economic uplift of the people. The best help would be to increase trade with Pakistan and make more investment here, he said. He welcomed the assurance from the United Kingdom for making investment in Pakistan and said this would help in economic stability in the country leading to improvement in the living standard of the people.
