Call to provide equal rights to special people

KARACHI - Karachi University Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences Dean Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi said that it’s our national responsibility to provide equal opportunities to disabled special persons of the society and our collective role must be pivotal for addressing this vital social issue.

He was addressing at workshop titled “Embracing Mobile Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities in Pakistan” organised by Department of Special Education in collaboration with ORIC Karachi University, Department of Computer Science and others to create awareness about the use and development of Mobile application for the special people to help make the society more accessible and available.

He offered all the collaborating organizations to engage with different departments of KU for collaborative projects for societal development. He also urged the students to master the art of time management and termed it key for leadership skills. Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof Dr Nasir Sulman talked about the paradigm of disability and its problems accessibilities, availability and non-discriminatory behavior. Pakistan is a signatory in the convention of the rights of disabled so we have to cater to all the requirements of it.

He said such event are of immense importance as they bridge the gap between the technologists and the domain people and specially when the departments such as ICTR&D are available to give details about funding opportunities as well, accessing the dream of having a available-for-all-society is not far from achieving. He said real disability is not using the available ability.

The ideas of a vibrator board stick for the blind, day with voice echo controlled application were discussed. 

 

Emergency system and sign language based application were also presented by the focus groups. Ideas that were presented were highly appreciated by the hearing impaired group and by the blind group.
