Political spectrum benefited from NRO: CM

KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that leaders across the political spectrum have been benefited by NRO and declared that it would not harm the PPP leadership as some opponents were trying to portray. He was speaking at a Meet the Press Programme organised by Karachi Press Club here on Tuesday where he distributed 467 residential plots among members of the Karachi Press Club. Syed Qaim Ali Shah criticised the opponents of NRO and said why these people had not raised this issue when Asif Ali Zardari became the presidential candidate .He said that President Asif Ali Zardari had got hundred percent votes during presidential election from Sindh because of political reconciliation process initiated by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and followed by the PPP Co-Chairperson. He said that PPP was committed to its slogan Roti, Kapra Aur Makan raised by its founding Chairman Shaheed Z.A Bhutto and pursued by his valiant daughter Shaheed Benazir Bhutto .The party was striving hard under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari to ameliorate the lot of poor and downtrodden masses, he added. He said that it was during first PPP regime of Shaheed Z.A Bhutto the journalists were given residential plots in Gulshan-e-Iqbal in mid 70s. He said in second Benazir Bhutto government had also given residential plots to the journalists in Hawks bay. The party had always worked for the welfare of the journalists and would continue to do so in future. Syed Qaim Ali Shah recalled the role played by the journalist community for its struggle along with the political leadership for the restoration of democracy and resisting the autocratic regimes. Who could forget the sacrifices of the journalists during the dictatorial rules of Zia ul Haq who did not spare the journalists. They were publicly flogged and incarcerated for fighting for the cause of freedom immediately after the founding father of PPP and first elected Prime Minister was removed through coup detat and was later martyred by the dictator, he added. He also came hard on the nationalists parties for their premeditated opposition to the NFC Award in a vain attempt to mislead the people. Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Minister for Information, Shazia Marri, said that the country was facing multiple challenges when PPP took over the reign of government but pursuing the policy of reconciliation initiated by Shaheed Benazir, the government was able to overcome number of challenges. She said that now the security has become a serious challenge for the government and armed forces were busy in rooting out the terrorism from the country. Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Agha Siraj Durrani said that present government under the able leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari was striving hard to fulfilled commitment of its Shaheed leader Z.A Bhutto and his brave daughter Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. He said that for the first time Shaheed Z.A Bhutto had allotted plots to the journalists. That policy continued during Shaheed Benazir Bhutto government and now the PPP government under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari was fulfilling the promise of its leadership.
