Hearing adjourned

LAHORE - Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court Tuesday adjourned to next day (today) further hearing of the petition earlier filed against the extension made in the vacation of private schools in the province. The petition has been filed by All Pakistan Private Schools Welfare Association, on which the court was informed on behalf of the Punjab secretary education that due to floods, teachers were busy in relief and rehabilitation activities when school buildings in most parts of the province have been badly affected by the flood water. And for that reason, extension has been made in the period of summer vacation, it was added. For the petitioner it was contended that as per the education code, summer vacations in the private schools could not be stretched beyond the period of two months and 10 days but the department had extended them by 21 days. It further said the teachers may also face difficulty in completing the syllabus so that court may intervene and direct the government to withdraw the decision of increasing the period of summer vacations for the private schools.
