CM to review law, order situation after every 10 days

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that curbing of crime and protection of life and property of the citizens is the prime responsibility of police and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard. He said that he would hold a meeting to review law and order situation in the provincial metropolis after every ten days. He issued instructions for the strict enforcement of one-dish law in marriage ceremonies and warned that in case of violation not only DSP and staff of the police station concerned will be suspended but administration will also be held accountable. He was presiding over a meeting regarding law and order in the provincial metropolis, implementation of one-dish law in marriage ceremonies, shifting of cattle from Lahore and entry of trucks in the City at Chief Minister's Secretariat here on Thursday, says a handout issued. Member National Assembly Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Members Provincial Assembly Abdul Razzaq Dhillon, Ch Muhammad Tariq Gujjar, Special Assistant Pervez Rashid, Home Secretary, Commissioner Lahore Division, Addl IG Special Branch Maj (R) Muhammad Mushtaq, Capital City Police Officer Lahore and SSP Operations were also present. The chief minister said that police force would have to discharge its responsibilities efficiently and evolve a comprehensive strategy to root out crime from the society. Taking strict notice of dacoity at Hall Road, he directed the police to trace the criminals involved in the incident within 7 days. He expressed his displeasure over the incidents of crime and directed police to improve its patrolling system as well as depute trained and fully equipped personnel at trade and business centres. He said that he had taken effective measures during his last tenure to check bank robberies and had directed banks to post alert security guards which yielded positive results. He said that incidents of crime during broad daylight is a matter of serious concern and he as Khadim-e-Aala of people will not tolerate any laxity in this regard. He said that though police performance has improved but it should make greater efforts for curbing the activities of criminal elements. He said that generators should be installed in trade and business centres for the uninterrupted functioning of close circuit cameras during load shedding and police should ensure installation of generators with the coordination of office-bearers of trader centres so that a watchful eye could be maintained on criminal elements during night as well. Shahbaz Sharif said that there is a need to promote a sense of security among citizens and bringing criminal elements to justice. He also issued instructions for the setting up of a committee to be headed by Advisor Jehanzeb Burki to review security arrangements in market and trade centers, patrolling system of police and affairs at police station level for bringing about further improvement. The committee will also review flaws in security arrangements and will take measures for their improvement. He directed strict implementation of one-dish law in marriage ceremonies and said that stern action should be taken against the caterers and marriage hall owners for violation of the law. He said that not only staff of police station concerned would be suspended but action would also be taken against the administration for violation of one-dish law in cities as well as rural areas. He directed to launch a vigorous campaign to promote awareness about the law throughout the province. He said that lavish expenditure and exhibitionism has become a fashion and poor people who borrow for the marriage of their daughters have to struggle rest of their life to repay the loan. The chief minister said that one-dish law will provide relief to the common man as well as promote austerity in the society. He said that assembly members should also play their role in this regard and ensure action against violators. He directed that a committee be set up under Home Secretary to review timing of functions at hotels and marriage halls and submit a report. He directed authorities concerned to ensure shifting of cattle from the cities by December 15 while timings regarding entry of trucks into the city should also be observed strictly and it should be ensured that lights are installed on construction material and other items loaded on the trucks. He directed Home Secretary to take effective action in this regard. CCPO Muhammad Pervez Rathore and SSP Operations Ch. Muhammad Shafique informed that Lahore police is actively engaged in curbing activities of criminal elements and law and order situation is improving. They said that six thousand close circuit cameras have been installed in the city but these cameras were not functioning due to load shedding during dacoity at Hall Road. They assured that criminals involved in dacoity at Hall Road and other heinous crimes will soon be arrested. The meeting was informed that Lahore police has launched a campaign against the violators of one-dish law and arrested 23 persons while action has also been taken against 18 caterers.
