Police to guard 650 processions

LAHORE - Capital City Police Officer Capt (Retired) Muhammad Amin Wains has said that foolproof security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order and provide security to Majalis and mourning processions during the month of Muharram-ul-Harram.

The city police chief was presiding over a meeting of Lahore police officers to review security arrangements. The meeting was informed that more than 17,000 police officers, officials, and volunteers would perform security duties during Muharram. The meeting was also informed that 5327 Majalis would be held while 650 mourning processions would be taken out. The CCPO said that security arrangements would be ensured according to the SOPs.

Amin Wains also directed the police to check installation of CCTV cameras to monitor the processions and Majalis while video recording would also be ensured at all sensitive spots. All Divisional SPs would supervise the security matters in their respective areas, he added.

The officer further directed the senior policemen to brief their subordinates about the nature of duty so that they could perform their duties effectively. He also directed the officers to keep a close liaison with volunteers as they would be helpful for security duty. He said that walkthrough gates would be installed at the entry points of Majalis and processions. After complete physical checking, the mourners would be allowed to enter the Majalis and processions, he added.
