'18th Amendment to restore Constitution'

PESHAWAR (APP) - Senior Minister Rahimdad Khan said Wednesday that 18th amendment bill would restore the sa-nctity of the Constitution and would further strengthen parliamentary system in the country. Talking to the agency, he said the credit for 18th amendment goes to President Asif Ali Zardari who voluntarily decided to relinquish his power, which is unprecedented in the countrys parliamentary history. In the past, the dictators had incorporated amendments in the constitution to prolong their rule. However, he said President Zardari has achieved a unique status in the countrys parliamentary history. when he voluntarily decided to relinquish his powers and extended his full support to government regarding constitutional reforms. The government, he said, has introduced many reforms including Giligat-Balthistan package, NFC Award, renaming of NWFP as Khyber-Pakthunkhwa, restoration of peace in militants stronghold Swat, restoration of sacked judges and Benazir Income Support Programme are one of the momentous measures taken by the present regime during last two years. He said that Presidents address to the joint sitting of the parliament was reflection of the vision of our great leader Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He that the President had fully pledged to make country free from poverty, hunger, injustice and wanted to restore the trust of masses.
