Paramedics protest for service structure

LAHORE - The Punjab Paramedics Alliance staged a sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday to press for the demand of Health Professional Allowance on the pattern of doctors and nurses, service structure for BPS 1-4 employees and increase in salary package.
Dozens of paramedics from various hospitals gathered outside the assembly in the morning and staged a sit in that continued till late night, causing worse traffic mess on The Mall and adjoining roads throughout the day.
Led by Yousaf Billa, Haseeb Khan and Waseem Chaudhry, paramedics continued protest while carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands.
Highly charged participants also chanted slogans in favour of their demands and against the government.
Protesting paramedics threatened to commit suicide if their demands were not accepted. PPA leadership also accused the health department of targeting employees raising voice for their rights.
They said that paramedics from Said Mitha Hospital have been transferred out of Lahore to teach them a lesson for raising voice for their legitimate rights.
Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq, Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik and Director General Health Dr Zahid Pervaiz held negotiations with PPA leadership that remained inconclusive till filing of this report.
