Ailing Shamim Ara needs help

LAHORE - Over Rs 6.5 million are needed to shift ailing legendary film actress Shamim Ara by an air ambulance to UK for her better medical treatment. Salman Majeed, the son of the bedridden actress, on Wednesday requested Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for financial support, as they could not bear such huge expense of shifting his mother to a hospital in UK. He said he sent an application to the CM Office for financial support, but received no response even after four days. He said that over Rs 6.5 million were required to shift his mother through an air ambulance wherein a team of doctors and certain medical equipment would also be needed. Actress-cum-director Shamim Ara suffered a brain haemorrhage on October 19, and was admitted to a private hospital here. Her health could not improve despite days long treatment. According to one her family members, she has showed positive signs now. But still she is not able to breathe without a ventilator. Shamim Ara got settled in UK some three years back with her son and was on a visit to Pakistan when she fell sick. Her son said he was facing difficulties in looking after her. He said he was an employee of a company in UK and could not stay long here while according to the doctors, he said, his mother would take months to recover. However, the doctors said they were satisfied with her improvement and treatment and the decision to shift her to UK was totally of her siblings. In the period after illness of Shamim Ara, a large number of film industrys figures including Bahar Begum, Zeba, Babara Sharif, Rambo, Reema, Sahiba and others visited the hospital to inquire after her health.
