LAHORE: A 25-year-old tailor gunned down his 20-year-old ‘girlfriend’ before taking his own life by shooting himself in Johar Town on Thursday.
The police later on reached the spot and removed the bodies to the Jinnah Hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
Zulfikar visited the house of Sonia Bibi as usual on early Thursday. He took out a pistol and shot her in the head after a brief altercation over some dispute, a police investigator said.
Since the lady had been learning sewing from the tailor at her house, he used to visit the victim’s residence. Police said Zulfikar had been running a tailoring shop in Amman Center in Johar Town, a few hundred meters away from the house of the lady. As per initial investigations, Zulfikar got infuriated and shot Sonia dead as she rejected his marriage proposal. The man then shot himself in his temple and expired on the spot. An investigator said they recovered two empty shells and a pistol from the crime scene.
Further investigations were underway.
Since the use of illegal weapons is common in this crime-prone society, killings of women by those spurned in love are not uncommon. In February, a 40-year-old man shot dead three women before pulling the gun on himself and committing suicide outside Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.–Staff Reporter
