JI demands ‘Panama politicians’ resign

LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has demanded of the politicians including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif having offshore accounts and assets confirmed by the Panama leaks to quit their party and public offices.
“Mr Nawaz Sharif should take lead in resignation after his family’s involvement in offshore companies was proved in Panama leaks,” Sirjul Haq said while addressing the religious parties’ moot at Mansoora yesterday.
He held that the foreign assets of the rulers were much beyond the expectations of the people. “If these assets had been made through lawful means, there was no reason for hiding them in off-shore accounts,” he added.
The JI chief said that the issue of Panama leaks would not die naturally. The parties who had been in power in the past had tried to conceal one another corruption but this could not continue now, he further said.
“Time has come that everybody have to account for his wealth and there won’t be any discrimination.”
Sirajul Haq remarked that in Karachi, a ‘Dry Cleaning Plant’ had been installed and those coming out of it were issuing certificates of innocence to the extortionists, land mafia and target killers.
He added that the rulers had forsaken morality which was the basis of all laws, constitution and democracy.
“In the countries which have democracy, no one can think of violating their moral norms,” Siraj said, adding that those who had been plundering public money had no moral right to speak of development and prosperity.
“It is time to learn a lesson from the Panama leaks and the nation should evolve new laws, democratic rules which will oust all those betraying the masses,” he urged.
The JI chief maintained that whenever someone big was hauled up for corruption in recent past, there was outcry of threats to democracy. He urged the political workers to purge their parties from corrupt elements.

LAHORE
Pakistan Awami Tehreek has announced countrywide protest movement for resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif following the allegations on his family’s involvement in Panama leaks scandal.
PAT secretary general Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, in a meeting held at party head-office yesterday, issued instruction to all district heads for holding protests and taking out rallies for PM resignation. The “resign campaign” will be started immediately, he said.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat-e-Islami have already issued call of protests on the issue.
“We made decision for protests following creditable proofs about involvement of the Sharif family in opening and handling offshore accounts and managing businesses abroad without paying any taxes,” Gandapur said. He maintained that the current rulers had lost trust of the nation and must step down.
“Now there is no need of a commission but of action against looters,” the PAT leader said with a warning that protest demonstrations will continue till all the plundered money is bought back to the country.
PAT leaders Maj (r) Mohammed Saeed, Noor Ullah Sadique, Sajid Bhatti, Farraha Naz, Naeemuddin Ch, Mazhar Alvi, Mir asif Akber, Shehzad Rasool and Rana Tajjamal attended the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting to write to all the district and divisional heads of the party and instruct them to start an awareness campaign and inform the masses about corruption of the rulers and their involvement in the Panama Leaks scandal, stated party spokesperson.
The PAT workers were told to get banners and poster ready with inscriptions of “Resign” slogans and hold protest rallies outside the press clubs of their respective cities.
