Ground breaking of Shehr-e-Khamoshaan

LAHORE - The ground breaking of ‘Shehr-e-Khamoshaan’, a series of graveyard reform programme of Punjab Chief Minister, was conducted by Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan, Advisor to Chief Minister, here in Kahna, on Tuesday.
Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan said that burial with respect was the thought and vision of Punjab Chief Minister and today is the day when practical step has been taken to achieve that vision.
He said that such model graveyard would be built in every corner of Lahore to share citizens grief and make their arrangements on such gloomy circumstances, easier and more calm. The event was attended by Commissioner Lahore, MNA Rana Mubashar Iqbal, Sr. Member SMU (Law and Order) Salman Sufi and notables from the civil society.
Shehr-e-Khamoshaan is a project of CMs Special monitoring Unit (Law and Order) along with CDGL. It will provide all services to give a hassle free burial experience to the grieving families. The services will include toll-free helpline, hearse service, shuttle service, mortuary for preserving the deceased’s body, bathing house and funeral prayer/janazgah.
The architect and landscaper for Shehr-e-Khamoshaan, have been finalized and PHA is responsible for executing the landscaping plan. The project is proposed to be completed by December 2015.
The chief minister believes that the government should stand shoulder to shoulder in the hour of grief of the Punjab citizens and that is the foundation of this project. Site for future graveyards in Multan, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi have also been identified and further selection of suitable sites in Lahore is also under process.
