‘Blackmailer’ flees as bail plea dismissed

LAHORE - Justice Shahid Hameed Dar of the Lahore High Court yesterday dismissed pre-arrest bail petition of a man allegedly involved in blackmailing women through Facebook.
However, the accused successfully escaped policy custody soon after dismissal of his bail application.
Farhan Islam, the accused, had filed bail application saying that he did not blackmail any girl or woman through Facebook. He said that the complainant woman sent him friend request first and then alleged him of blackmailing and lodged an FIR against him.
On the other hand, a law officer presented investigation report of FIA and stated that the accused made a fake account of his former class fellow and blackmailed her by sending objectionable messages. The law officer pointed out that accused has been found guilty during the process of investigation.
He further told the court that FIA received a number of complaints against Faheem that he disturbed women on Facebook and blackmailed them. After hearing both sides, the judge dismissed his bail application.
Meanwhile, LHC issued contempt notice to SHO, South Cantt, Lahore for not appearing in case of against Mutafa Kanju the son of former State Minister for Foreign Affairs Siddique Kanju, and his guards from charges of murdering a ninth class orphan Zain Rauf (13).
Bench had summoned the SHO but he did not appear. Bench was hearing government appeal against acquittal of Mutafa Kanju and had issued notices to all the accused. Cantt police took Mustafa Kanju into custody on the charges of murdering Zain last year.
ABRARUL HAQ CASE: The Lahore High Court yesterday accepted request of federal government’s counsel and gave time until March 2 for filing of reply in a petition filed by PTI leader and singer Ibrarul Haq seeking issuance of no objection certificate (NOC) to establish a medical college.
Petitioner counsel opposed the request and said that further delay would cause a year lose for the students as they would not be able to appear in the exam. He also said that it would cause lose of Rs 1.25 billion as expenditures.
The judge excepted the request of federal government. Petitioner counsel had alleged that the health department was not inclined to issue the NOC as the petitioner was member of an opposition party. He requested that the health department should be directed to issue NOC.
Meanwhile, the LHC sought reply from the federal government on a petition challenging sale of hotels of Pakistan International Airline in (PIA) in different countries of the world.
Petitioner Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree alleged that the government intended to sale these hotels on throw away price. He said that the government did not get approval from the parliament for sale of these hotel and it would be a big loss to public money. He requested to order the government not to sale these hotels. The court adjourned hearing until March 8.
