Sentence to Ilm Din was biased

LAHORE–The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday fixed March 14 for hearing a petition seeking reopening of the case of Ghazi Ilamud Din Shaheed.
Advocate Farooq Hassan stated that a biased bench comprising LHC non-Muslim judges had uphold the death sentence to the great Muslim Ghazi Ilamud Din in 1929. The counsel said that both judges’ decision was the violation of justice norms. He requested the court to reopen the case of Ghazi Ilamud Din and form a full bench for its hearing. He also asked the court to direct the government for martyr’s burial after acquitting him of the charges.
Report sought: The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Thursday sought inquiry report on spurious medicines reportedly supplied by Punjab Government to flood affected people of the province in year 2010. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial also ordered the secretary to apprise the court of steps taken in the light of the inquiry report and action taken against responsible. The court was hearing a petition moved by Mureed Hussain through counsel Aftab Ahmad Bajwa against distribution of expired medicines by the health department Punjab. When proceedings started, Additional Advocate General (AAG) Punjab Ahmad Rauf told the court that sub-standard and expired medicines had been destroyed.
However, the petitioner’s counsel said that these medicines were destroyed in 2012 whereas the Punjab government and the health department distributed these medicines to earthquake affectees in 2005 and flood-hit people in 2010 which caused many deaths.
The counsel pointed out the Punjab government constituted an inquiry committee after the apex court took notice of matter. He further pointed out that the committee was headed by DIG Maj (retd) Mubasharullah which held then secretary health and others responsible for distribution of expired medicines among flood-hit victims. The chief justice observed that the matter was related to human lives and the court would take action against the responsible, irrespective of their status.
The court will take up the matter on March 27. The petitioner had submitted that the drug inspectors raided Jinnah hospital’s medicine store in 2012 and found that many expired medicines were being supplied to the patients. During probe, it was further revealed that a part of expired medicines stock was also distributed to flood affectees in 2010. He said the Punjab government constituted a committee which held then secretary health and others officials responsible for distribution of expired medicines. The petitioner pleaded the court to sought the inquiry report and take action against responsible.
Amendment to elction rules: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought federal government’s point of view over amendment to the Presidential Election Rules.
A divisional bench comprised Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mamoon Rashid directed a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to appear and assist the court on the matter on Thursday (today).
The bench is hearing an Intra Court Appeal (ICA) moved by a local lawyer challenging the amendment in section 5(3) (a) of the said rules done by the then chief election commissioner in 2007.
In his arguments, the lawyer said amendment was a violation of 41, 62 and 63 of the constitution of Pakistan.
