Stricter law ‘must’ to fight terror

LAHORE – Senior PML-Q leader SM Zafar has demanded a new law on the lines of the US-Patriot Act and the UK Homeland Regulations to deal with the terrorism.
Talking to the media on Saturday about the suo moto of the Supreme Court and political parties’ reaction on the Quetta killings, he said, “Taking suo moto (by the apex court) or statements by the politicians on the tragic events like the Quetta killings will not help deal with the menace of terrorism”.
“The Supreme Court should give an order to the prime minister and law minister under Article 190 of the constitution to get pass a new law from the parliament on the lines of the US Patriotic Act and the UK Homeland Regulations before the dissolution of the national assembly to deal with terrorism,” he proposed.
SM Zafar said, “A more strict law giving more powers to the intelligence agencies and other law enforcement authorities is needed to counter terror, or else the anti-state groups will be encouraged upon seeing that even the Supreme Court cannot do anything substantial.”
