Maryam distributes laptops


LAHORE - The 21st century is the age of information technology and Punjab government was aiming at filling the knowledge gap between the youth of Pakistan and the modern world. Maryam Nawaz said this while distributing laptops among talented students at Lahore College for Women University here on Monday.
While addressing the laptop distribution ceremony Mayram said that the scheme would facilitate the students to learn modern education. The function was attended by a number of women parliamentarians including Zakia Shahnawaz, Anoshay Rehman, Kiran Dar, Saba Sadiq, Raheela Khadam Hussain, Farah Deba, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Nuzhat Amir, Najma Hameed, Arfa Khalid along with LCWU Vice-Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor, Registrar Riffat Saqlain, Examination Controller Dr Tahira Mughal, Kousar Jamal Cheema, Dr Farhat Saleemi, Noshaba Farooq and more than 10,000 students.
On the occasion, Maryam said that PML-N had taken far-reaching measures for the promotion of knowledge in the larger interest of the students. She appreciated the invaluable services of LCWU for the promotion of education and expressed honour for being the part of the institution. She also expressed gratitude to her teachers. She said that Chief Minister’s announcement of the package for women on International Women’s Day was an important step towards women empowerment. She said that under the package, loans would be distributed among women for their economic self-reliance.
Maryam hoped that more students would benefit from the scheme next time and said that the opponents of the party criticized the Punjab government only for the sake of criticism. Earlier, Maryam distributed laptops to 35 students and advised the winners to work hard and to commit themselves to education. LCWU VC Dr. Sabiha Mansoor in her address said that the function was milestone in the history of the varsity. She said that the large number of laptop recipients reflected the high standard of education in the university adding that the varsity does not compromise on the standard of education and concentrated both on quality and quantity. She congratulated the recipients of laptop and expressed her hope that the gift from Punjab Government would enhance their capabilities for conducting research work. The VC said that WiFi system had been installed on campus and students could connect their laptops round the clock with ease.
