Babu briefed on HR report


LAHORE – Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights (Islamabad) Ms Amna Imran Khan on Wednesday held a meeting with Home Secretary Shahid Khan at his office. The meeting was a part of the consultation process aimed at finalizing the Universal Periodic Review Report, to be submitted to the United Nations by October this year.
The UPR, established by UN General Assembly in 2006, is a human rights mechanism which makes it obligatory on all 192 member states to submit a report on their human rights obligations and commitments once every four year. Pakistan submitted its first UPR Report in 2008 and the next is to be submitted in October 2012 for which first draft has to be finalized by May this year.  Besides the Home Secretary, Amna Imran Khan also held meetings with the Provincial Secretaries for Law, Prosecution and Human Rights who is also the focal person for the exercise in this context.
 Amna Khan said that following the passage of 18th Amendment many subjects like health, education, women rights and labour now fall under the provincial jurisdiction.
