MQM moves resolution in NA against Altaf

ISLAMABAD - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has submitted a resolution in the National Assembly Secretariat to condemn controversial remarks of Altaf Hussian.

“Three MQM lawmakers have filed a one-page resolution in the National Assembly Secretariat against their own leader (Altaf Hussian),” sources in the NA Secretariat told The Nation.

MQM, the third biggest opposition party, has used very technical language in its resolution to condemn controversial remarks of political leaders against the country.

The resolution of MQM MNA Iqbal Muhammad Ali was filed in the NA Secretariat to be taken up at the upcoming session starting from Friday. Sources said the party members also disowned its old companion, Asif Hasnain, in its resolution. Asif Hasnain left MQM and joined Pakistan Sarzameen Party (PSP) a couple of days before.

MQM, in a new move to gain sympathies of other opposition parties, has also started holding series of meetings.

The sources said the MQM members would meet almost all the political parties from the opposition benches.

Earlier on yesterday, an MQM delegation, comprising three members of the parliament, held a meeting with senior PPP leaders. According to a source, the MQM MNAs asked the PPP leaders to support their party in the upcoming parliamentary sessions to overcome the ongoing tough situation of the party.

MQM lawmakers, Iqbal Muhammad Ali, Sheikh Salahuddin and Sajid Ahmed, met Opposition Leader in Senate Aitzaz Ahsan and Qamar Zaman Kaira.

Talking to media persons, the MQM lawmakers said their party’s senior leader would share its stance in the upcoming national assembly session.

When asked about moving a resolution against Altaf Hussain, Iqbal Muhammad Ali dodged the question. “It is premature to comment on this issue,” he remarked.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab Assembly has recently approved a resolution condemning Altaf Hussain’s controversial remarks. It was demanded through the resolution that the statements made by him against the country be declared as a national crime.
